Glastonbury 2017

It's the Glastonbury Music Festival here in England this week (from this last Wednesday to tomorrow Sunday). It's held on a farm in the county of Somerset (cider drinking country!) So what's special about it? Apart from the pop music, there is lots and lots of SHOULDER RIDING!

In actual fact, I should say 'shoulder sitting' because there are lots of scantily-clad females (teens into their 20s) sat astride the shoulders of guys while they listen to the music and bob up and down on these guys' shoulders. There are a few guys on guys too. But I haven't seen any guys on girls (at least not so far).

The girls who are sat on the shoulders of the guys seem to sit there for a fairly long time - maybe 20 minutes or so. I think I remember reading on this forum that it can be quite tiring for a carrier who is standing still to have someone sat on their shoulders for as little as 10 minutes. So what do the carriers on this Forum think about the stamina of these guys who have a female sat astride their shoulders for 20 minutes+ and bouncing up and down too?

Glastonbury seems to be a shoulder riding festival as much as a music one. Have any carriers on this Forum been to Glastonbury (or any other music festival) specifically to give one or more people a shoulder ride rather than hear the music?

Over the course of five days, it would be possible for a carrier to give shoulder rides to lots of people, particularly females in the teens/20s who look like they'd eagerly accept the chance to get up astride a guy's shoulders. Such a carrier would likely go back home totally exhausted but totally happy too!

Re: Glastonbury 2017

I have found, in my personal experience, that it's not so easy as you imply to get random girls to accept a sr at a festival.  Yes, it has happened to me, but most of the sr you see at festivals are people who knew each other before going in.

Re: Glastonbury 2017

Jeff:

Most  people who  go to festivals go there with  people they  know  and most women  would  question the  motives of a strange man  who asked  her to  sit on his shoulders. She would assume  he is either a pervert  or he expected something in  return  for his service.

However, girls tend to be gregarious and also  jealous of  each other. This  might  work  to  your advantage if  you  encounter a group of  people where  some of  the  girls  are sitting on  guy's shoulders  and some are  not. If  the group has more  girls than  guys, and  you  don't  just  charge over and ask one of the girls  to let  you lift  her, you might  have better  luck.  You  might  strike up  a  conversation with  the  girls and casually mention to  one  that her  friends sitting on  their  date's shoulder  have a  much  better  view. If she shows interest  you  might then offer  to  serve her in this  capacity. Often  at  such events  there isn't any seating for the  public  and  women  often  over estimate their  tolerance for the shoes  they  chose  out of a sense of fashion  rather than  practicality.
The  option of  being  able to have a better  view  and being able to sit rather than  stand  may be an enticing  proposition.
If  a  girl  accepts  this offer,  remember  that  you  may  be  nothing  more than  a optional elevated  seat  for her. Having her sitting on  your shoulders doesn't entitle you to  take any  liberties or  assume any  sort of intimacy.   You  should also put her down carefully when  she  tells you  too  and above all, don't give her  any  indication that she  is heavy or a  burden on  you. This is especially  true if she is a  heavier  girl  and  might  be  sensitive to  that  fact.

I  can  tell you  that  sitting  on  a  man's shoulders in  a stationary  position for a long period  can become uncomfortable.  I  was  once in  a  position where  getting  down was nearly impossible and I  sat on  my  date for  45  minutes because the crowd  was so  tightly packed  that there was no  room  to stand.  My  date  missed  seeing  much of the  performance  as I had him keep his head down so  I  could shift my  position to  take  some of  my weight  off  the  back of  my thighs.  even  sitting up  there for 20  minutes  as checkmate  guy  reported  can  become  uncomfortable.   It's  more  uncomfortable   than sitting on  someone's shoulders  while he is walking  in  spite of the bouncing of  his walking.   I  have also  seen  men sitting on  men's  shoulders at  concerts and other events  and  while  mot of the riders were smaller  or equal in  size  to  the men  beneath them,  a few  of the  riders  were larger  and  obviously larger than  most of  the  girls sitting on guy's shoulders.

Re: Glastonbury 2017

I think Audreyb made some great points. I would add the possibility of "hunting" for shoulder riders together with a wingman! One guy alone offering a shoulder ride could look creepy, but two friends would probably seem innocent fun-loving guys trying to pick up girls (literally and figuratively!)

I agree that a static position is more uncomfortable. The reason is that - during an actual ride - the rider's weight moves up and down at every step. So if I am ridden by a 130 lbs woman, the pressure on my shoulders will constantly vary between something like 100 and 160 lbs. That's better than a constant 130 lbs, believe it or not, because each temporary release helps relax my muscles and allows better blood circulation.

In fact, at a concert, I'd rather move up and down with the music... which is also lots more fun for most riders!

Re: Glastonbury 2017

brad's shoulders:

Your right  about the  wingman  making  a  guy  seem  less  odd. But I  would caution you against  isolating a single girl in  such  a  situation. In  a crowd  the  girl will usually feel more  secure  and if  she is with  friends   she won't feel  like  she  is being ganged up on  by  two strangers.

Since I only see myself as a  rider or  perhaps a  shoulder-sitter in this case, I can only speak of comfort  from  that  position. Rocking and  bouncing to the  music  at a  concert does  relieve  some of the  discomfort  and  forget the  discomfort  just as  dancing can take  my  mind off  my sore feet.

But  when I'm  on someone's shoulders  I'm  often  not really sitting on  him.  My  thighs are  bearing my weight rather than  my bottom  and holding onto his head with  my thighs to  keep  balance is  a  natural  reaction  and  puts  more stress  on my thighs which makes  the interference with blood  circulation a  bigger  problem.  I  really  can't think of a way to  resolve  this  problem of  staying up there for  a  long  period of time. Having the  carrier bow his head so I  can sit  more forward solves the problem  for  me  but he  can't stay that way  for  very long  and I can't  sit on  top of his  head.
So until they  start  making headless  men  I don't think  the  problem  is  solvable in any  practical way.

Re: Glastonbury 2017

Jeff: a lot of the females (and guys) at Glastonbury were either pretty drunk or high on drugs or both - that's why they go to Glastonbury for booze and drugs as much as they go for the music. It's part of the culture of Glastonbury. So quite a few females will (likely) say 'yes' to just about anything you propose to them, including: 'Hey! Would you like to get on my shoulders for a better view?'

On the last night of Glastonbury, I saw a female who was in her early 20s (I'd guess) who was sat astride a guy's shoulders, and she had what I can only describe as 'head-crushing' thighs.

I did admire the stamina of those guys who were able to stand for pretty long periods (20 minutes+) with bouncing and bobbing over-active young females sat astride their shoulders in amongst a large tightly-packed sweaty crowd.

As Audreyb said, there were quite a few guys-on-guys too. On this point, Glastonbury would suit a pony-guy who wanted a  masochistic experience of having a guy sat astride his shoulders for maybe a solid hour while he stood there bearing the guy's weight until... maybe... he dropped to his knees with exhaustion.

The best act in my opinion was an American singer called Chrisse Hynde with the group The Pretenders. She was dressed in tight blue denim jeans and rocked away like a real pop singer and gave a fantastic performance. I guessed that she was over 40 and maybe between 40 to 45. I looked her up on Wikipedia and she is... 65! What a fantastic woman!

Re: Glastonbury 2017

@Audrey - "Until they start making headless men"? That made me laugh out loud! big_smile I would definitely keep my head down for a rider who selfishly demands comfort such as yourself. And even with a wingman, I would target girls that are in pairs or groups: they may even take turns riding me!

@Checkmateguy - Did you take any pictures / videos at Glastonbury? And were you ridden as well?

Re: Glastonbury 2017

Brad's shoulders:

I didn't/wouldn't go to Glastonbury. This music venue has been taken over by the posh types - yuck! Decent straightforward folk used to go to it many years ago but now, as I said, it's been commandeered by the posh, upper-class, types and it's now very expensive. Glastonbury is a place both to be seen and show off by these posers.

So I just watched it on TV via our State broadcaster, the BBC. And well worth watching with plenty of shoulder-riding shots (the camera crews and the control room staff seem to be shoulder-riding fans! Maybe a few are even members of this Forum?)

On the point about a submissive guy being shoulder-sat at Glastonbury until he drops to his knees exhausted, his masochistic experience would be heightened, I think, by the fact that he was being shoulder-sat in public surrounded by other people - a bit like him giving another guy a shoulder-ride along a public street, maybe a shopping street.

On a similar point: I'd love to see Aubreyb being given a shoulder-ride along Main Street in the USA town/city where she lives. That would be something to see!

checkmateguy,

if you did not go to the Festival, how can you write with such certainty that it is easy to give a random stranger a sr there?

I wouldn't be as shy  as you   might  think  about sitting on  some  guy's shoulders in  public in my home town  and  none of my close friends would  be very  surprised.   But I  am  a  business  woman  and I do  have to  consider  my position in the  community. As such,  public displays that some  people  might view as inappropriate  have to be somewhat  guarded.  I  was lifted on  the  shoulders of one of  my male employees  at  a company  picnic at the  beach  which  amused  everyone. The  employee  didn't  seem  to  mind being  my pony  since I had taken over as  CEO just a few  months  earlier. Unfortunately,  that  employee is no longer with  my  company.  He didn't  collapse under me at the time so  there is little  more to say  on  that  subject  personally.

Whether the  carrier is a  masochist  by  nature or just a person willing  to serve  for  various reasons, I  would be amused by a  carrier   falling  beneath his rider  or  master. A  master so  dominant that he/she  can ride a carrier or slave beyond his  limits would  be an interesting  person in  my estimation.
Whether the  rider is  actually sadistic or just has  enough  self-esteem to see himself as worthy of  such  service, he or she would be worth  knowing.

Re: Glastonbury 2017

aubreyb:

... some carriers/human ponies might like the experience of being shoulder-sat or shoulder-rode to exhaustion! I am, in a manner of speaking, looking through the other end of the telescope than the one you are looking through.

Jeff: the people at Glastonbury, when there and singing and jigging along to the pop music have a complete personality change. Ordinarily, when you see people en masse in a crowd (e.g. a crowded city centre or a railway station at rush hour) they mostly look stern-faced and don't interact with the people around them. But, at Glastonbury, they are totally transformed albeit with a little help from alcohol and drugs. Most of the females there are likely to say 'yes,' to just about anything. Being asked if they'd like a shoulder ride would be one of the tamest and most innocent of the requests they get. If a guy likes giving females shoulder rides he could do that with different females several time a day over the course of the five-day festival. Save up and go in 2020, Jeff. (But no  Glastonbury for two years, I believe, for some unknown reason).

Perhaps I'm  missing something  because I don't really understand the  "different ends of the telescope"  remark.

From  some of your previous  posts, I'm  almost  certain that you indicated that  you were more  inclined to be  a rider  and expressed something of a  desire  to  sit on  the shoulders of both  muscular men  and thin/frail men  who would suffer  from your  weight on their shoulders.

I'm  quite  familiar with  masochists and have encountered  several over the years who  have  requested things that would  make falling beneath someone  sitting on  their shoulders  seem mild or even mainstream.  I have  never indulged  them of course   but some of  these things,  whether  merely a  fantasy or a  serious desire  included what  amounted to assisted  suicide.  Needless to  say  I don't stay in  the company of such  extreme  individuals  and have  no idea  or interest in  knowing if  they  ever found anyone interested in  indulging  them.

Re: Glastonbury 2017

aubreyb:

just to clarify what I meant by the remark 'looking through the other end of the telescope.'

Quite naturally, as a rider, you view things from a shoulder rider's viewpoint. The 'other end of the telescope' is the viewpoint of a carrier/human pony. His viewpoint (ponies are usually guys although there are a sprinkling of females who like to be rode) is probably that of a person who would like to be ridden by a dominant rider.

To illustrate this point, we had a man speaking on UK radio last Sunday morning. He was talking about women and the type of men they like. Although women generally like 'nice' men as friends (i.e. gentle, agreeable, and often docile men), when asked if they'd like this sort of man as their boyfriend (thus implying a sexual relationship) they usually said: 'Oh, my god, no! He's just too nice!'

Translated into shoulder riding, many human ponies similarly (if they have a choice) prefer a dominant rider rather than a 'nice' rider who might be constantly asking them if they're okay/feeling tired/am I too heavy/do you want a rest... blaa... blaa...blaa...?

Truth be told they want a bastard to get on their shoulders and ride them like hell.

So if you feel like having a 'hard ride,' aubreyb, don't hold back. Get astride your pony-guy's shoulders, squeeze his head between your thighs, dig your heels into his ribs, and ride him until you achieve the gratification you crave even if that means riding him until he drops! The sole reason that pony guys exist and their raison d'etre is to satisfy the needs and desires of shoulder riders.

Re: Glastonbury 2017

Thank you  for the  clarification .  I'm  certain  that if I  were sitting on  the shoulders  of a  masochist  who craved such  abuse, abusing  him beyond  his physical  limits would be relatively easy from  that  position.  It  may also be  fun if I  was in  the right  mood at the time.

As it is, I see  the  rider as  the  superior  position  and rightfully  expecting the cooperation  and  service  from the  carrier.  This is of course  just from  my  point of view.  There have been  times  when I saw  the  carrier's service as a  personal  favor or simply a  matter of practicality .At such  times I have expressed  gratitude for his efforts.

But  ,  as in  the  case of riding with  my  friend in  the woods, I experienced various  changes of  attitude  in  regard  to both  my  carrier and  our  relative  positions. Starting with some empathy and  gratitude,  through some  degree of  anger   and ultimately indifference. The  indifference  was the feeling that somewhat  surprised me and  the  one  that I  examined . It rather shaped  my  general  attitude in  regard to  the activity.
