Some Riding Tips

From time to time I receive email messages from other members who treat me as a riding expert, which is very flattering.  Actually it’s not rocket science, and every active or ex-cheerleader almost certainly knows everything I know.  All the same, I like to see people enjoying themselves, so I’m posting a few photos in the “open” WOM gallery labeled with tips that might help to make the experience safer and more fun.  The most important ones are that the rider should center her weight over the horse’s spine, which makes carrying her much easier than using a lot of muscle to keep her in place, and that she should use her own leg muscles wrapped around her horse’s sides to keep her securely and solidly astride.  That way both horse and rider are contributing to good form, less work, and lots more pleasure.

Happy riding, my friends. smile

Re: Some Riding Tips

Very good pics, and wise advice, Madame ! They both confirm I had made a good choice when selecting You to ride me in my tough competition to come with Namaegaaru, aka Sam, in an 8 km shoulder-riding race .... But alas, alas, alas, it's but a dream, a beautiful dream for sure, but still a mere dream .... wink wink ..........

Please allow me though to wish You many many pleasurable rides in 2009 !

Re: Some Riding Tips

Coach Liz, thank you again for your instruction which is always welcome. Nice pictures.

Equidum has his fantasy. I have mine. I would love to have you bring Roger to coach my wife and me but obviously I would have to earn your trust and her consent first. Then there would be more to earn.

Equidum, it is interesting that a self-proclaimed masochist like you prefers to be shoulder ridden by Liz who claims to detest cruelty of any type. I did not see any indication that you would prefer to be shoulder ridden by "Mary," a self-proclaimed sadist, in such a race. You are right to imply that I am willing to suffer to defeat you in such a race and if I am a masochist in this way, so be it, there, you won!  I, under previously stated circumstances, have stated a willingness to shoulder carry non-sadistic ladies such as Liz.

Liz, Hong, Ridress,  and the rest of you shoulder-ridresses, sadists such as "Mary" rule only SOME masochists. Kinder non-sadists such as Liz and HOng rule SOME masochists such as Equidum AND some non-masochts such as me. Sadists rule SOME. Kinder more considerate ladies rule MORE.

To all of you, you are requested to consider this attitude in pursuit of a Happy New Year.

Shin nen omedetou gozaimasu.

Que tengan feliz ano nuevo.

It is time for languge instruction on "Happy New Year and Enjoyable Shoulder Riding.

Re: Some Riding Tips

Bonne année, Sam ! Bonne année, bonne santé, et .... bonnes chevauchées !

Indeed, I wish you enjoy a lot of happy rides in 2009, with the riders of your dreams ! And I wish the same to all the the  riders and mounts of this board ! I know we all love riding/being ridden for a lot of different reasons, but I'm sure that ALL the riders, somehow, would have a rather dominant profile, < most of them very sligtly > , and that ALL mounts have a rather submissive profile, usually very slight as well .....! Otherwise,  I wish someone could explain to me the true nature of a pleasure found when physically suffering for another person, as regards the mount, and the true nature of a pleasure found when riding someone AND knowing that it is very hard for the mount .... If both find pleasure < AND THEY DO ! > in those completely opposite situations, they must have a totally opposite psychic-set, too ...?!

Anyway, happy rides again to all

Re: Some Riding Tips

HI LIZ,

THERE IS ONE SHOULDER RIDE YOU HAVENT SHOWN YET, MAYBE YOU HAVENT TRIED IT. I HAD A TALL GIRL 5' 9" RIDING ON MY SHOULDERS FOR CF IN THE POOL. SHE PROCEEDED TO GET BEHIND ME, BUT HER HANDS ON MY SHOULDERS, AND JUMP UP STRADDLING MY NECK WITH HER LEGS. SHE FIRST PUT THEM AROUND MY BACK AT MY SIDES. BEFORE WE GOT INTO THE CF, SHE FIRST TIGHTENED HER THIGHS AGAINST THE SIDE OF MY FACE, THEN DEDIEDED TO STRAIGHTEN HER LEGS OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND LOCK HER ANKLES AS WELL. NOW SHE HAS MY HEAD IN A SCISSOR LOCK AND HER LEGS IN A VICE LIKE GRIP. SHE SAID THAT WITH HER LEGS THIS WAY, AN OPPONET CAN'T GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO KNOCK HER OFF ME... NOT REALLY! THE OPPONET GRABBED HER FEET AND PUSHED THEM UP CAUSING HER LEGS TO GO BACK AND PRACTIALLY PULL MY HEAD OFF... WE TRIED THIS AGAIN, EXCEPT THIS TIME SHE HAD HER LEGS LOCKED AT THE ANKLES BUT HER LEGS WERE DANGLING IN FRONT OF ME! MUCH BETTER! HAS ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED TO ROGER WITH YOU RIDING HIM?

TAKE CARE,
DICK

Re: Some Riding Tips

Hi Dick,

You're right. I haven't tried ankle locks with anybody, although I have had plenty of opportunities.  I'm reluctant to cause pain, and I guess I just like to wrap my legs around my partner's body, but they're very strong legs, and I can produce a very respectable squeeze for horses who are really into that.  There are other mounts I didn't mention, of course, that I learned as a cheerleader, like using my partner's hand or bent leg to step up and swing astride.  I can vault to my partner's shoulders from behind, even if he or she is standing.  I'm short, so it takes a pretty big jump until I can use my arms to lift me high enough to straddle my partner's neck.  Running vaults of this type are not too hard, but the rider has to be careful to reduce her forward momentum so that she doesn't knock her horse down.  A really unexpected mount is a tumbling run with a back flip at the end, landing on a partner's shoulders instead of on the floor.  Another fancy one is being lifted in a split by two partners, one on each side, and having a third partner come into the middle so that they can let me down astride his neck to ride him in the usual way.  Incidentally, riding astride one shoulder feels good too.  It's fun to experiment!
