Ultimate shoulder rides

It's fascinating to see how some really skillful shoulder riding is part of cheerleading, trick bicycling, vaulting (acrobatics on a loping horse), jumping on a trampoline, water-skiing, tightrope walking, and of course in the kind of domination riding where a woman uses her male horse for exciting stimulation. Nothing can beat really hot riding in private, of course, but I've also seen some really good shoulder rides in modern dance. I wonder whether anyone has, or knows how to find, a video of the Pilobolus Dance Theatre's "Day Two," in which everybody wears only a thong, and in two parts of the dance, two girls ride two guys topless, with all the skill and balance of professional dancers. And of course, they all have great bodies. That dance is a lot of fun to watch in person, and I think a video recording, if anybody can find one, would be a real pleasure to watch. Does anybody know?

That is it, Liz. You can shoulder ride while doing modern dance and then match your violin music to the video of it. I noticed that the modern dance you mentioned had classical music in the background. See? Classical Music can be associated with shoulder riding.

Carrying this a bit further-pilobolus is a fungi-which is passed through the gut of herbivores and it grows on their dung-raises the possibility of all sorts of interesting dance routines.

On a more serious note-I have a couple of contacts that are looking into finding the video-it was made in 1981.will wait and see.

Taurus, that would be nice. Shoulder riding is not an unusual part of modern dance performances and I find dance in general fascinating to watch, not only from a shoulder riding perspective. A Youtube search for Pilobolus results in quite many hits...

In classical ballet you can frequently see shoulder sits. However, most of the time it is on one shoulder facing forward with one of the girl's legs in front attitude and only one leg down against the guy's chest.

Maybe we should address her when discussing her.

Liz, what are your opinions on our ideas concerning involving your classical music with your shoulder riding and whether you prefer that we address you directly when discussing you?

Sorry for the late reply. I've never been water skiing, but I think I could learn to do it, and as for shoulder rides on water skis, it sounds like a lot of fun. I notice that the girls who ride in ski shows seem to have really good form, with their legs wrapped just right around their partners' torsos. If I ever get the chance in my travels, I'd love to give it a try!

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Let me put it this way. There is no music in existence that I wouldn't enjoy riding to, although I have to admit that music with a good pulsing rhythm that inspires my partner to move in time to the music is a definite plus. But I'm easy to please -- I love to ride even in complete silence.

Rock performers seem to have an advantage over us classical musicians. We've seen some rock soloists riding on stage and even through the audience, singing through wireless mikes or playing electric guitars. Has anyone seen someone riding at a concert, playing rock fiddle? Come to think of it, I've never even heard of anyone using a violin as a solo instrument in rock music. Has anyone else?

Thank you for being so considerate. I'm glad to respond to any questions or comments you care to send me, and if you mention me in other postings I take it as a compliment. My only reservation, if that's the word I want, is that I feel a need to keep my passion for riding separate from my career as a professional violinist and teacher, because some of my musical colleagues might think I'm a little weird. (I don't think so, of course. I just think that they're sometimes more conservative and unenlightened in their thinking than necessary. After all, a girl who plays the fiddle is still a girl who is likely to have other interests as well.)
