The Bogus Membership or The Future of the USR Community

Today I share my wisdom for free! Enjoy.

When I became bonus member Just to try it I've discovered I have access to only a handful of recently added movie clips, and no to the main repository which requires money (?!) How do successful web communities lure people to contribute today? They make as much content available to as many as possible so everyone can see what they can get, and make the contributing to the community part of the experience. Sure there are LOTS of pictures, but those are free (and that's great!) But then what's the real motivation to be "Bonus"?

The contribution can be anything It can mean money but it can also mean content. Indeed Facebook one of the world's largest communities is free to play content-trap for all. The problem with webzones like that it's got questionable reputation when it comes to privacy. Everybody can meet almost everybody there but nobody wants to share his or hers real name and details and rightly so. I'm not the owner of the USR site, but as a user what I'd love to see is more contributions. Obviously. I'll be honest I believe the system is broken. Because some of the greatest shoulder riders either don't feel motivated to share their experiences or they don't think the bonus membership can do them any good. I mean they can go on Youtube and find more better stuff without statuses and all that. They just pop in here, get a few contacts and then move on. 99% of great SR stories including some of our member happens without us ever knowing! MissP a very active and popular rider said She does not care for Premium membership. What can You, what Can We all offer people like Her to change their mind?

On the other hand if I understand things correctly someone can pay off the server fee and  access the movie repository without as much as introducing him(or her)self to the rest of us. It's called the whale syndrome. It's nice that admins got some cash for the servers and all, but then their service completely circumvents the community.  And it's a paradox. Pay to enjoy so you don't need to share. I think, that those, who want to contribute money to the community probably are the people who would do it anyway.

The key to all that I think may lie in things that money can't really buy - like a group of verified users, people vouching for each other and sharing more private info to facilitate contact. Like I don't need to know The girls name or Her surname but I'd like to know where she lives and whether or not she is willing to do shoulder riding at the moment; then Bonus members would be verified people and - believe me - In this day and age honesty is priceless because it's dangerous. You register on YT, or on Facebook, and You become CIA's full time snitch on yourself, your friends and family. Maybe CIA is our great protector but what about thousands of criminals, scammers, psychopaths bots viruses etc, and so on?

If I can trust anyone or anything on the NET I can trust a small community like this one because it's fairly unlikely to be a  criminal scam - there is not lots of people and the die hard fan base is pretty narrow. Believe me, people will appreciate the ability to be themselves in a small community - where they can find what they're looking for without worrying for privacy, harassment and such. We know You are not the damn facebook, And I will prove to You I'm genuine Shoulder riding fan. Then a bonus member can earn the goodies by contribution. More people would appreciate the ability to find each other while keeping discreet as the sites reputation would improve.

Sincerely.

Re: The Bogus Membership or The Future of the USR Community

If I understod you correctly, you are unhappy about two things
1) the fee you have to pay in order to access the archive
2) the lack of newly uploaded videos

Let´s answer number 2 first
- Any member can post a new video. Why so few new videos are posted these days, we don´t know. New videos are usually kept available for bonus members at least for a year.

You are also unhappy about this request we have. "Please contribute by donating a small amount so that we can afford financing the fees for bandwidth, administration and storage space to the web hotel provider".

As you and other long time members might remember, we used to ask for a yearly donation of USD 100 for many years. Our archives got endangered a few years back, so we had to move them. At that time we also had to start asking for a fee for the access to the archives. Please believe me when I say that no one of the admins make any money out of this forum. The donations are really needed to keep this site and the archives online.

That and I'd love to see people being motivated to contribute more. If You mean it's not hard to find a video You may be right but I want to play fair, and not download it somewhere without authorization, but create it. I am ambitious this way. However, when or if I have private material I might be shy to share it, I hope You understand. I'd love to do so but I'm not fond of the idea of being recognized. Because it's private. I believe I speak for most of us smile

Re: The Bogus Membership or The Future of the USR Community

Here is what I suggest. Add a point system. Award points to users for adding content, so they can collect something. This really works! And it would motivate people to share and participate more, if Bonus membership costs 100 points and I've got 70 I really want to earn remaining 30 so I'll share more pictures and stories and so on.

Make sure the premium content is available to those who get the most points, allow members to award points to other members for contributions they find most valuable.

Thank´s for the suggestion, but a system with points would mean a lot more administrative work. All admin work here is done in our spare time. Spare time is something we all have too little of. We all work long hours for our living. If we wouldn´t love sr, this forum wouldn´t excist. At least not under current management.
