Re: New sport in shoulder riding - have a look at the website

Sounds like an interesting new sport and one that will/should promote the sport of shoulder-riding to the public as a main-stream sport (well, almost). Part of this new sport consists of the female rider starting off each contest by standing on her male carrier's shoulders. That sounds rather dangerous. Maybe the females riders would be better to participate in the sport by sitting astride the male's shoulders during the whole period of each contest? If this new sport became popular, there could be celebrity versions in which well known and attractive females would be the riders... yes, please!

Thanks Trigger ! And I approve Checkmateguy's comments : It would be best if the rider kept just SITTING on shoulders during the whole race. Also, in order to increase its chances to become mainstream, that sport should improve its rules as regards the relative weight of both carriers and riders, in order to allow all possible combinations, (a heavy rider on a light carrier, for instance), and it should also allow same-sex teams. It means that a handicap scale should be defined, as it's been done for sailboats regatas, for instance. It should not be too difficult in fact. I defined such a handicap scheme, which proved very effective, for "dressage sessions" for on all fours rides, which allowed fair competition between very different teams ( For instance a man carrying a lightweight teen, versus another carrying a heavy rider ...).

But what a great idea for a very exciting new sport, indeed !

This is very interesting and would be exciting if it caught on.  I agree with equidum.  There should be a system that allows for heavier riders on smaller carriers to compete fairly with light riders on big carriers.  A handicap system so to speak.  Something should be in place to encourage all types of carrier/rider combinations rather than just couples that barely meet the 2/3 weight requirement.
