Is shoulder-riding now mainstream?
Today, in the UK, a broadsheet newspaper called 'The Daily Telegraph,' had a large (almost full-page) advertisment showing a female sat astride the shoulders of a man (on page 15). The advert was for a holiday company and the female was wearing a bikini bottom and sat on the man's shoulders in a wide leg pose. Does this mean that shoulder-riding has come of age and is now socially acceptable or even normal? Why, of all the images which the ad agency could have picked, did it choose to use the photo of a female sat astride the shoulders of a guy? The answer, of course, is that they thought that this sort of picture would catch peoples' attention. It certainty caught mine!

In fact, SR pics in advertising are rather frequent, especially when advertising for holidays .. To me it doesn't mean that SR is going mainstream, at least not "OUR" SR style. It's just a way to express an active but relaxed lifestyle, fooling around with a BF, far from the daily social pressure ... Nothing ultimate in that SR ....

What holiday company is it? Maybe we can find that image.

The holiday company is: expidia. (Book now and get a female to ride on your shoulders for free? How's that for a full inclusive holiday!)

Amazing! Astonishing but true! Yes, shoulder-riding has now become mainstream. In a UK newspaper (last Saturday's 16 March 2013 'Daily Mail' Weekend magazine supplement, pages 8 and 9) was an article about a brother and sister (both successful adults). Accompanying the article were pictures showing the sister shoulder-riding her brother. They were born in Scotland but moved to the USA when their father was transferred by the Caterpillar Company he worked for. She's 53 and is professor of English/Director of Creative Studies in Writing at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her brother is big in TV and films. I wonder if Miss P and passion will be shoulder-riding guys when they're 53? To see the photos, go to Picture – WOM. (They should be on page 1 - first 4 photos.)
