For female riders, is there a difference in the amount of feeling, comfort or pleasure between a wide straddle and a more closed position? Does one position feel better than the other?

I’ve always wondered about this. I appreciate any insight. Thanks.

If you are just sitting on the shoulders-for a photo-then the open position is used-but if you are riding the pony then the closed position gives more control and of course more feeling-when pressure can be applied with the riders thighs, thus increasing the satisfaction.

Agree with above. Also, I think the best way for females to shoulder-ride a guy (or another female) is to sit astride the carrier's shoulders with her thighs thrust forward and sloping down so that she can experience the greatest sensation from the ride. To do this, she should tuck her heels in tight behind the carrier's ribcage. By sitting astride her carrier's shoulders this way, she would have maximum control over the carrier and, of course, be sat very securely on the carrier's shoulders too. It must be remembered that the female anatomy enables her to sit tight up against the back of the carrier's neck - this is something that some (many?) carriers like to feel/experience albeit if she's wearing denim jeans (as is likely) the back of the carrier's neck is likely to get chaft... but not many carriers are likely to complain about that.
In Freudian terms, when a female sits in the wide-leg position, that's known as 'the invitation position.'

I agree with both mastadon and checkmateguy ! I'd just like to add that, when the rider sits as checkmateguy describes, the mount will be nearly forced to bow his head, thus offering even better seating to his rider on his shoulders AND neck ...

mastadon, checkmateguy, equidum, I appreciate the various contexts and explanations that you brought up. I also saw one WOM shoulder ride during which the rider alternated between wide straddle and closed position. In both positions she had her thighs sloping down for maximum pleasure. I'm wondering why she would switch between open and closed positions.

A female can increase the pleasure she's experiencing from a shoulder-ride by opening and closing her thighs around the carrier's neck as she rides, i.e. rhythmically squeezing the carrier's neck.

I recently had a female wrestler on my shoulders and she had a closed straddle which I enjoy more. She squeezed my head with her thighs. It is definetly more enjoyable.

Thanks for the follow-up checkmateguy and your reply femlifter. Yes, in the shoulder ride that I saw, the rider playfully squeezed her thighs together maybe for about a minute. Later the carrier also squeezed her thighs together maybe for up to a minute. He also later squeezed her thighs together rhythmically for about a minute or so while bouncing her up and down.
The whole ride lasted well over half an hour, and the rider was dominant/commanding him for about 2% of the time, and for the remaining 98% the carrier was the one in control. During some stretches of about 7 minutes or more, the rider would sit in the open straddle position while the carrier just walked around. She even sat in a more open position as the carrier did some running around.
Perhaps she just wanted to relax while in those open positions? I’m not sure.

Interesting discussion... It seems squeezing is quite rare but when it happens, I believe women do it just for fun, or to tease or maybe because she knows it excites him a bit.

Can I make one observation? Whenever I've seen someone sat astride another person's shoulders, I can't help but noticing the way that he or she is sat. For me, at any rate, I can tell (or I think I can tell!) how s*e*x*y or dominant the rider is merely by the way he or she is sitting on the carrier's shoulders. Personally (and some other members may agree with me), I find that the most erotic style of shoulder-riding/sitting is where the rider is sat there astride the carrier's shoulders in a very relaxed way with his or her legs just hanging down very loosely. When a rider sits like this on a carrier's shoulders, it looks to me at any rate that the rider is in total control of the carrier and apparently, by doing very little, is nonetheless utterly dominating the carrier. I find this blase (there should be a ' over the e) style of shoulder-riding very erotic and it's a style of shoulder-riding favoured by young and ultra-dominant guys who treat their carriers with a throwaway disregard or contempt - and their attitude just adds to the erotic way they shoulder-ride.

In waterskiing when coming off a dock start the woman has to squeeze tightly due to the laws of physics. A tremendous sudden forward force comes from the boat when the line is stretched, and there is no velocity while sitting on the dock. She either squeezes tightly or falls off. Once the initial acceleration passes she can relax a bit as they both have a steady velocity.
