Safety for Carrier - Help soon Please!

I have a girl that I am going to carry (piggyback, shoulder ride, whatever kind of carry) throughout a decent hike. It is over 1 mile long and has an elevation game over more than 1,000 feet. Yeah, lucky me. She doesn't plan on putting her feet on the ground the entire way up.

Are there any safety precautions I should take as far as carrying goes? What is the safest way to carry her? When and how often should I take breaks etc? This is going down in a couple of days so please get back to me.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Safety for Carrier - Help soon Please!

Apart from thoroughly warming up before, and being on  a champion's diet at least the day before, I supposeyou haven't got anything special to do.

To me, a shoulder-ride is the best way to carry Her on such a distance. Now, carrying a rider for one mile is not that tough,  BUT doing that with a 1000 feet denivelation sounds VERY DIFFICULT !!!! I don't know the mathematic formula, but I know that going uphill doesn't simply ADD to the effort required, it really multiplies the effort
If I were you I would try and negotiate a deal with Her : She doesn't plan to put one foot on ground before reaching the summitt ? Replace "foot" with "butt"! So, when you take breaks, you will be allowed to lay down on the ground to really recover, and She will keep sitting on you, if that is Her fantasy, with, for instance, Her butt on your chest and Her feet on the ground ...

Please keep us posted on that event !!!

Re: Safety for Carrier - Help soon Please!

Thank you for the advice. If there is enough interest on this topic, I will post some pictures. I plan on having her take a camera and snap some shots while she is relaxing and enjoying the ride. I misphrased my wording about the foot on the ground thing, I told her I will need to take breaks but she won't have to take a step up the mountain.

Regardless, I will send some pics to those who reply like you Equidom.

Re: Safety for Carrier - Help soon Please!

I have a few thoughts I'd like to share with you carrier92. If you are at a very steep, precipitous terrain I would take her piggyback but I guess you would do that anyway to keep the balance. If you feel you are in a situation that you don't feel steady and secure anymore than put her down, for the safety of both of you. If you may take breaks in between then this isn't a problem anyway. If your body should signal you at some point "STOP!" consider to listen to it, you got only one body and one health in your life.
I wish you good luck for your venture and lot's of fun for both of you.
Maybe you could put the camera now and then somewhere with a good angle to take pics of you both with self timer. Then you can go back and pick it up again but believe me when you finished that day you might like to look at pictures of you like that as if someone else would have taken those of you.

Very little to add to what Louie says. Stretch much first. Go in cooler part of day. Drink enough water, etc. Best of luck to both of you.

I would want her to be polite and appreciative of the effort or I would feel it was too good for her. You get to decide what you will of course.

Bring a backpack with water spray, when she is riding on ur neck her thighs get very very hot and sweaty, so you will have to prepare to spray some water in your head and her thighs when it became unbareble, that will keep you both happy from the riding, and it can get slipery, but if u r a strong guy you should manage, because i ride many man and when we fall he can always slow down the fall and keep both us from being hurt, you just need to be bit careful and thats all!

I love ride on your shoulders :)
