With the London Olympics fast approaching,I thought that this was worth a mention. There could be several events, particularly in the athletics section:-
1.The WOM section-I think this would be very popular with most of our members.Races would obviously have to be run on a handicap basis, with those carrying heavy riders getting an equal chance as those with lighter riders.
Events could range from the 50 metre dash to the marathon(might suit shouldertaxi from Sweden!) However, competitors for this event must remember that(a) they should try and finish the race on the same day, and(b) make sure they visit the toilet just before the start of the race!
2.The MOM sectiion. How about a torch relay for this one? Meet an old flame!!
3.The less popular sections,MOW and WOW.The WOW might attract a few tennis players.
AND FINALLY..............................
A special computer-generated,'virtual-reality' event, specially arranged for those who, through no fault of their own,are unable to make it to the games in person.mm-a few names spring to mind.
Stop Press-how about a water-polo tournament, with chicken fights in the interval?
These are just a few suggestions to get the ball rolling,so to speak!

What a lovely fantasy ! After the Olympics and the Para-lympics, we would thus have the Shoulder-lympics !!!
Races would be a key part of those shoulder-lympics, all races actually, from the 50 m to the Marathon, as you mentioned, Ali, but there are also a few games that I've been dreaming to adapt to SR . My top-super-ultra favourite being shoulder-riding POLO, where horses would be replaced by men, strong men, of course ! Each player would probably need to have two or three ridees, the playground should be shortened, the duration as well, but I'm sure that SR-polo is quite feasible!
Volley-ball, basket-ball, hand-ball, are also good candidates for SR-lympics, as well as a few more games involving horse-riding( Is "dressage" an olympic game?).

I'd certainly tune into the wow beach volleyball sr event!

Nice but fantasy indeed. Anything like that can't make it to the Olympic Games since there are certain rules what could become an Olympic discipline. For instance it has to be a sport that is done in at least 75 countries around the world for men and in not less than four continents (for women in at least 40 countries and three continents). There must be national sport federations (e.g. swimming federation) as well as an international federation for that sport or otherwise the IOC can not accept that as a sport category in the Games.
However shoulder rides are part of some sportive activities like waterski or cheerleading and anyone who likes it is of course free to create a fun event with shoulder riding like e.g. like Ben mentioned a beach volleyball event with sr teams playing. I definitely wouldn't mind it. Or you guys start a campaign for a huge "international" chicken fight contest or a shoulder riding race etc.

I would propose a shoulder-riding event for midgets who play basketball so that they can improve their chances of getting the ball in the net. I'm hoping that during the Olympic Games there will be plenty of female cheerleaders riding around on guys' shoulders - maybe at the opening of each event. Lord Coe, by the way, who is one of the people in charge of the London Olympics, was once seen in the House of Commons gym riding around on the shoulders of a member of parliament called William Hague - he's now the UK's Foreign Secretary.

Some amusing comments! You are right to think that dressage is an Olympic sport,Equidum-it forms part of the three day eventing(the others being cross-country and show jumping).Might be more suitable for all-fours,though.
I suppose that,if shoulder riding is not officially included in the Games(although we can all dream!),then members could always offer their services on the admin.side.I mean,if the ladies'beach volleyball net needs adjusting,Im sure there would be no shortage of volunteers to give a leg-up!!

Equidum, your wheely design could be considered instead of wheelchair races?
Sigh most of my thoughts involve all fours and other forms of two legged games, not SR so I will stop myself LOL.

I'm glad that You mention my "wheely design", Wildfiregirl, thank You !It would obviously be more exciting, and glamourous, than the wheelchairs of the Paralympic games, but so much out of mainstream thinking process, alas ..... ![]()
That being said, that wheely design of mine certainly meets Your wildest requirements as regards riding, as it combines the comfort of all-four riding position with the efficiency of two-legged rides... But in this forum, we discuss SR ....
