I'd like to ask the experienced carriers of this community this question:
If you carry someone for more than only some minutes until you feel it becomes really difficult and even painful, what do you do? Do you continue or always take a break to recover in that case?
In particular I would be interested to know if you ever had an experience where you got to a certain point where it started to get easier again, like when you reached the moment when it is worst and then you felt you would be over the peak of it and it would be more bearable. If so tell us about it in any detail please. How long does it take you to get there if there is such a moment at all and is it only that you do not "feel" anything anymore regarding pain? I never had such an experience, I only know the feeling that the exhaustion gets more and more but especially the pain gets really uncomfortable.

I carried a girl when I was in High School about one mile from the beach to her house. She was chunky about 5 foot 3 around 130 pounds. She wore tight shorts and a half shirt. After about 1/2 mile the back of my neck was hurting as well as my lower back. The only thing that kept me going was her selfish attitude as she had her hands on her hips and seemed not to care about my struggles. To this day that was one of the hardest rides I have ever given and one of the best. When I set her down I had to do so on the hood of her Mom's car. I couldn't bend all the way down as my back was hurting.

When I have carried people lighter than myself-say 50kg or under, then I have not noticed any problems at all.I cant remember the length of the rides, but some of them must have been 20 minutes or so.But someone heavier than myself is a completely different ball game. After about 4-5 minutes,my neck and upper shoulders start to ache, and sometimes I get out of breath.I stand still and recover my breath(as I said in an earlier article),and this prolongs the ride, but eventually, the riders' weight proves too much. However,I have never extended myself to the point of exhaustion, and have always kept a little in reserve. It would be interesting to know if there was indeed a point at which it actually became easier!
Perhaps I might try it at the next meet, but at the age of 59,perhaps Im getting a bit too old!!
