A useful tip for ponies

Here is a useful tip I picked up today while I was giving checkmateguy another series of rides in the New Forest. It is especially appropriate if you are carrying someone heavier than yourself.
When you are carrying someone, not only will you feel their weight on your shoulders, but you will also find yourself running short of breath. If this happens, and you are gasping for breath, try standing still(with your rider still on your shoulders),and get your breath back. You can then move off again, and perhaps repeat the process two of three times, before your riders' weight becomes too much, and you have to lower them down.In this way, both rider and pony benefit,as the rider gets a longer ride, and the pony gets added confidence to carry their rider for longer periods.
When I get short of breath,I usually have to put my rider down whilst I collapse in a heap! But I tried getting my breath back,as above, and it really helped to prolong the ride.I hope it works with others!!
P.S.I saw some real New Forest ponies today.I am beginning to know how they feel!!!
