shoulderriding in the classic literature

There are two shoulder riding episodes in the horror story Viy by the famous Russian writer Nikolai Gogol .
In the beginning a seminarist Khoma was straddled by a witch on his way home. He had to fly with her on shoulders in a night sky.
Then one character told a tail about a whipper-in Mikita who was bewitched by a landlords daughter. One day she caught him at a stable and asked him if she could put her leg on him. Mikita was so happy  that he offered her to sit on his shoulders. Then he bent  his back and grabbed her white legs. After a long gallop with the young witch on his shoulders Mikita was totally exhausted but he could not stop until he was reduced to ashes.
