Hi-I have been giving shoulder rides ever since I was at school-a long time ago.
Years ago,a young lady used to ride me regularily and we developled a great understanding-so much so we were looking for things to do-about this time marathons were becoming popular and we decided to try and ride in one.
I had myself done a number of marathons in respectable times 3-4 hours.
Jane weighed about 71/2 st-so I had to do some training-I used to run at first with with 25 kg on my back then uped it to 50kg-I remember it was hard word-I trained for about 3 months.
We then decided to try shorter distances at first-first one was 5km-it went quite well-we were not last and Jane survived-after a couple more short ones,we uped the distance to 10km-then we met a problem, not from me,but Jane-when I was trotting she was bouncing up and down to much and was unable to go any further- so a full marathon was out of the question.
We decided to try for 1/2 marathon-but we needed another rider-to do half each-we found another lady who was willing and we actually completed a 1/2 marathon-it took over 3 1/2 hours-at the end of it both riders were a little on the sore side.but the old horse was not to bothered. Just showes what training does for you. l

Wow! Mastadon that is an impressive stunt. Even though it was shortened you were still able to complete at least half. I could have been only maybe half of that. Thats a nice memory isnt it?

Really very impressive, mastadon ! ( But ... What do 71/2 stone mean in avoirdupoids measurement system .....?)
Now, why didn't you provide Her with some sitting device, like an empty backpack with a mere foam-roll on top ? She would have been allowed a more comfortable sitting position, and thus a decreased impact from your steady bouncing along .... ? Anyway, yes, training can do a lot, but your performance is really impressive !!!

Hi-For your information.
7 1/2st is 105lbs or 47.7 kg.
We never even thought of providing additional comfort for the rider-it is only in the last 20yrs or so that those things have been thought of.
We must have been tougher in those days or more stupid.
