sr translations

Since it can be intersting and of course helpful to know what shoulder riding means in various languages I welcome anyone to participate and let our community know the translation in their languages... Thanks!

German:

shoulder ride ... Schulterritt
riding on shoulders ... auf den Schultern reiten
chicken fight ... Hahnenkampf
Would you like a shoulder ride? ... Soll ich dich auf die Schultern nehmen? (~)

Re: sr translations

Good idea, Louie!

Swedish:

shoulder ride ... ? (no such expression in Swedish)
riding on shoulders ... rida på axlarna (this is common)
chicken fight ... ? (not sure if there is a Swedish expression for that)
Would you like a shoulder ride? ... Vill du rida på mina axlar?

You can also use the word "sitta" instead of the word "rida" in the Swedish language. I´ll get back to this subject when I have more time to write.

Re: sr translations

Briga de gallo (chicken fight) is used by the youtube videos we know from Brazil so it must be portuguese, do we have any Brazilians here?

Re: sr translations

I am also curious about tranlations to Spanish, Portugese (shoulder ride...), French, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Russian, Czech, Croation, Hungarian etc. etc. etc.

Please everyone (also a chance to get bonus membership!) help out with further translations, maybe you can also add phrases we have missed so far...

Thanks to all!

Re: sr translations

The Finnish language has no word for "shoulder ride". You must do some explaining, if you want your partner to understand, what you are asking for. The word "ride" (=ratsastaa) isn´t used at all in this case. Instead Finns use the word "istua" (=to sit). There´s also several words for "shoulder".

At a rock concert, you could ask a girl this:
"Would you like to sit on my shoulders?" = Haluatko istua harteillani? ( or "hartioillani" or "olkapäilläni")
"Can I sit on your shoulders?" = Saanko istua harteillasi? (or you can use the other words meaning shoulder)

"Chicken fight" = Kukkotappelu (but be careful, the same word is also used for male organ fighting!)

No sir. Briga de galo is the Portuguese phrase for chicken fight. Briga de gallo is the Spanish phrase.

According to my wife who is from Japan and some of her Japanese friends the Japanese phrase for "shoulder ride" is

                           kataguruma.

The phonetics are the same as in Spanish.

However this phrase when used in searches in www.youtube.com (New Window) usually results in videos showing judo throws over the shoulder.

"Kata" means shoulder.  "Guruma" when used as a separate word is "kuruma" which in my Japanese to English dictionary translates to carriage, car, or wheel.  It is their language. They get to do as they wish with it.

On the other hand, an internet search using this phrase, "kataguruma," had gotten me a picture or two of shoulder riding.

Re: sr translations

En français, in French :

No word for "a shoulder ride" in French from France, but I believe that, in Quebec,  they say :  "un tour d'épaules ". In France, we just say "à cheval sur les épaules"...  Likewise, no word for "piggyback", we say " à cheval sur le dos ".

fancy a lift ? ......... Vous voulez que je vous prenne sur mes épaules ?
