Ultimate shoulder rides

Question for Nick:

Last Sat (13 October 2012), I met up with ali2121 and made two videos of us shoulder-riding in the New Forest. However, the videos are in my Pictures section on my laptop. Normally, I can usually move them (i.e. 'save as') to my desktop but I find that I can't move them from the Pictures section. If I could have transferred them to my desktop, I could upload them elsewhere such as to YouTube.

The problem is that unlike clicking a video on YouTube and copying the address, it's not possible to click and copy the addresses of the videos which are in my Pictures section. It seems that the only way I could upload these videos to Ultimate Shoulder Rides is to first upload them to YouTube and then, once they are there, right click and copy the address and then post on to Ultimate Shoulder Rides. But the problem is that I don't want to upload these videos to YouTube, only to Ultimate Shoulder Rides.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Can you navigate with the file explorer to the folder where you have saved all your pictures and videos? That is probably what you need to do. What operating system and version are you using? Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 or MacOS X?

Youtube allows you to upload private video clips, to be shared only with a direct link, thus it will not appear among the search results when someone searches for keywords.

Interesting reply, Nick. My operating system is Windows 7. I'm using a 17" wide Sony laptop (bought new last November.)

Ordinarily, I can click on a file and save it to a new location (e.g. desktop.) That's easy to do with pictures (i.e. image files.)

However, the videos which can be viewed on RealPlayer or Windows Media Player are difficult to move elsewhere other than uploading them to either YouTube or Facebook. These latter two are the only options.

That's a good suggestion you mentioned, i.e. uploading to YouTube but make it private access. The problem I might have is that when/if I upload it to YouTube something might go wrong and it become a public video. So I'd rather not take that risk.

All in all, it seems amazingly difficult to extract a video file from where the camera downloads it to. I can make DVDs or CD-Rs okay and save the files to a memery stick. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem possible to click on a video and capture (or copy) the Youtube-type code that can be copied and pasted on your site. I guess there probably is a way of doing it but, for the time being, I'm stuck!

Read about the "unlisted" option. That makes the video clip public but not searchable, thus only those who know the link will be able to watch the clip. Avoid using your own account in case someone can trace it or if you have uploaded other video clips previously.
